Samir Saba, MD, received his Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering in 1985 from the American University of Beirut and his medical degree in 1993 from the same institution. He then finished his training in Internal Medicine (1993-1996), in Cardiovascular Diseases (1996-1999), and in Cardiac Electrophysiology (1999-2000) all at the Tufts University – New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, prior to joining the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the field of Cardiac Electrophysiology. Starting in 2005, Dr. Saba became the director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology section and of the EP laboratories at the University of Pittsburgh. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine and of Clinical and Translational Science in 2009 and was conferred tenure in 2015. He became Associate Chief of Cardiology in 2015. He is currently a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society.
Samir Saba, MD, has authored more than 230 manuscripts that were published in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include cardiac device therapy for heart failure, signal processing of intracardiac electrical signals for ischemia detection, as well as the study of the molecular and genetic bases of arrhythmias. Dr. Saba is the recipient of research grants from the national Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, the American Heart Foundation, and the American College of Cardiology. He is on the editorial board of leading cardiology journals such as Circulation and Heart Rhythm. He is also a busy clinical electrophysiologist with expertise in cardiac device implantations, ventricular arrhythmias, lead management, ablation procedures, and left atrial appendage closures.
Dr. Saba is well known international figure among electrophysiologists and holds many leadership positions nationally at major healthcare system and internationally in cardiology society.
